Happy 60th Birthday! As president of The Cottagers, Incorporated for 2016-2017, I extend warm and cordial greetings to you, the Executive Board and members. I sincerely hope that you had a wonderful fall, winter and spring and are preparing yourself for a busy fun-filled summer on Martha’s Vineyard.
We point with pride to the wisdom of our founders, officers and members who have enjoyed membership and served the organization faithfully and well over the last sixty years. We thank them for their firm foundation on which we have had the opportunity to build. To begin the season, I think that it would be fitting and wise to pause and review our accomplishments, rejoice in our commitments and to project those activities which will direct our paths to unparalleled heights during the summer of 2016.
Formed in 1956 by a group of African American women homeowners on Martha's Vineyard, the Cottagers now has 100 women who are Vineyard homeowners and whose mission is to promote education, a sense of cultural pride, and the value of service to the community for the people of the Island. This exhibit shares their history and memories over the last 60 years. Join Cottagers historian Joanne Edey-Rhodes for a talk on the exhibit. Reception to follow
